celebrity sightings D. Boone, Lewis & Clark | | Style: | Pit toilet currently 8/17/01 | | Comments: | This yellow block current pit toilet is located on the KATY Trail and HWY 94 on the only land actually deeded to Danial Boone. The Lewis at Clark expedition stopped at Boone's new town called Missouriton, acroos Hwy 94 from the pit toilet building which has a sign which says, Matson Station. There is no other public restroom currently available within about 10 miles from the scenic and historic site. The KATY Trail was founded after passage of the National Rails to Trails Act passage in 1989. A hiker or bicyclist can park at the large lot next trailhead toilet facility and then go Northwest along the Missouri River on connecting trails all the way to Kansas City, Missouri. Pit toilet structures are located about every 10 to 12 miles on the trail. Primitive overnight camping facilities are forecast nearby for the fall of 2001. There is also a new County Park Mountain bike trail which can be accessed while parking at the Matson Station Trailhead. The 3.3 mile mountain trail crosses portions of historic Femme Osage Creek where 10,000+ year old primitve remains have been found. The Matson Station Pit Toilet is a focal point of good clean fun for families on a budget. hty 8/17/01 |
